Rome was not built in a day

Rome was not built in a day No one builds a house, they lay brick one at a time- and again and again and the end outcome is a house! A remarkable glorious achievement is just what looks like a long series of unremarkable, unglorious tasks from far away - Procrastinators are bad at remembering this! @SahilBloom you don't set out to build a wall ...you say, I am going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid ...and soon you have a wall Great feats are simply the outcome of tiny acts done well, over and over again ...Will Smith Rome was not built in a day...but they were laying bricks every day! Attention Today

Attention Today pg.170: Stoic 6 Pack: Epictetus When you have said, "Tomorrow I will begin to attend" What you are saying, in fact, is "Today I will be shameless" disregardful of time and place and behaving mean When you have said, "Tomorrow I will begin to attend" it will be in the power of others to give me pain Today I will be passionate and envious When you have said, "Tomorrow I will begin to attend" How many evil things are you permitting yourself to do, Today? If it is good to use attention tomorrow, how much better it is to do so today !!!

Trust!

Trust! pg.170 : Stoic 6 Pack : Epictetus If I had a cask which is water-tight and you had one with a hole in it and you should come and ask me to deposit my wine and I don't, you complain that I did not trust my wine to be with you! You don't trust your affairs to a man who has disowned his faculty of will who wishes to gain a small bit of money or some office or promotion in the palace You entrust your affairs to a man who is faithful, modest and who thinks His actions alone are injurious or useful and that nothing external is! Show me your opinions, you man! show me that your cask has no hole in it! you will see, how I shall not wait for you to trust me with your own affairs But I shall come to you and ask you to hear mine For who does not choose to make use of a good vessel? who does not value a benevolent advisor?

Zeno - The Philosopher meets Antigonus the Emperor

Zeno - The Philosopher meets Antigonus the Emperor Zeno was going to meet Antigonus  Zeno was not anxious But Antigonus was! For Zeno did not care for stuff that Antigonus had Power for And Antigonus had no Power  over anything which Zeno admired! On other hand, Antigonus was anxious fir he wished to please Zeno which was out of Antigonus' Power and sadly he was unaware of it! Remember, one who has a skill in any art does not wish to please one who has no such skill!

Symptoms of Illness

Symptoms of Illness pg.58 Stoic 6 Pack Epictetus Did you observe in this man?     He sinks in his knees and shifts from foot to foot     he is in a fever He would be anxious about     Poor Body, Little Property And the will of Caesar     But not anxious about  Forming a false opinion ot     exerting influences contrary to Nature As a Physician sees a man pale,  and judges from his patient's complexion This man's spleen is disordered   that man's liver is in trouble Likewise, you may diagnose that This man's desire and aversion are disordered.

Mukund.Inc

Mukund.Inc I, Mukundhan, need to employ Mukundhan ;  Mukundhan is an employee of Mukundhan.Inc Mukundhan, the Founder, has to have, Owner Mindset Mukundhan, the Employee, has to have - a technician Mindset Above statements may look funny and even laughable to you😁😁😁.but it's a very powerful idea proposed by author :Steven Pressfield who calls above method of employing yourself as f/s/o - for services of; I need to have this mindset in life and work - because I need to observe myself without emotions. - when faced with a problem, frame that problem as if it happened to others - try to observe the problem from a distance - so that I am less subjective - and don't take the blows personally! Doing so shall provide clarity - and able to provide me with solutions that are more effective

On Being Anxious

On Being Anxious Epictetus: Pg.158 : Stoic 6 Pack Why am I Anxious? What do I want?  If I don't want a thing, that's not in my Power , How can I be anxious? A flute player playing by himself has no Anxiety But when he enters the Theatre He is anxious, even if he is an expert For not only he wishes to play flute well But also obtain applause , which is not in his power Things independent of our will (Posssessions, Power, Will of the Boss) are neither good nor bad Things dependent on our will (our own opinions and actions) are within our power Focus on the Internals Not the Externals

Necessary and Sufficient Conditions

Necessary and Sufficient Conditions pg.156: Inspired by Epictetus  Necessary Condition:   In an If-Then condition, 'the clause following the 'Then' states the necessary conditions for the antecedent; If 'A', then 'B'; B is the necessary condition for A ie., If B is falsified, then A is falsified For example, If 'Square', then 4 Sides;  4 sides are the necessary condition for a Square; If not it's not a square Sufficient Condition: It is 'A', if and if only 'B' The truth of B guarantees the Truth of A It is a Square, if and only if : 4 Sides 4 sides are straight 4 sides are equal 4 sides form a closed-loop The angle between the 2 sides is 90 degrees All of the above are sufficient conditions for Square;  Too often we think of the necessary conditions only and seek entitlement, but forget that there are more sufficient conditions that we need to fulfill

Beginning of Philosophy

Beginning of Philosophy First, understand that you have weaknesses and an inability about necessary things This may cause disagreement with another Now inquire into causes of disagreement Don't identify causes that only "seem" Identify causes of what it "is" Discover that "rule" (like the balance to weigh, Ruler to measure length) the role of philosophy is to examine and confirm the rules Use the ruler then properly - without parallax error Thus things are counted and weighed when rules are ready The above process is similar to Hypothesis testing in statistics;  The hypothesis is : "It Seems" Test: of Opinion is through the Rules For example, there is an object to be weighed : if you ask 2 different people, they shall give 2 different answers on the weight . The weighing balance solves the issue; Role of Philosophy is to examine the Balance - like the Auditor of Scales
