Trust!
pg.170 : Stoic 6 Pack : EpictetusIf I had a cask which is water-tight
and you had one with a hole in it
and you should come and ask me to deposit my wine
and I don't, you complain that I did not trust my wine to be with you!
You don't trust your affairs to a man
who has disowned his faculty of will
who wishes to gain a small bit of money
or some office or promotion in the palace
You entrust your affairs to a man
who is faithful, modest
and who thinks His actions alone are injurious or useful
and that nothing external is!
Show me your opinions, you man!
show me that your cask has no hole in it!
you will see, how I shall not wait for you
to trust me with your own affairs
But I shall come to you and ask you to hear mine
For who does not choose to make use of a good vessel?
who does not value a benevolent advisor?
