Gaping after gold!

You need to see the destiny in store For the man who gape after gold- For one must pay the penalty for all greedy acts- Although greed is enough of a penalty- in itself! Greed is wretched  In that which it craves- for men always prefer what they failed to win! Greed is wretched! I n that which it wins! -  for possession of riches means Even greater agony of spirit than the acquisition of riches! Letters from a stoic Seneca

Like children

How contemptible are the things we admire! Like children who regard every toy  As a thing of value, Who cherish necklaces bought at a price of a mere penny As more dear than their own parents or brothers! We elders go crazy over paintings and sculptures taking delight in tall columns and pillars! In large dining halls enough to contain a city crowd; We check our own eyesight when we have overlaid Our ceilings with gold, For we know that beneath those gilding There lurks some ugly wood! Nor is such superficial decoration spread  Merely over walls and ceilings; All the famous men whom you strutting about With head in air, Have nothing but a gold-leaf prosperity,  Look beneath and you will know, How much evil lies under that thin coating of titles ! Letters from a stoic Seneca

On Style

Strength or soundness cannot be expected  From external style - of beards and locks! Style is the garb of thought One who possess  Thoughtfulness, moderation, endurance, refinement, affability  Would radiate on one side With justice and temperance Another with bravery and wisdom And possess; holy, gracious and shining face  !!! Seneca Letters from a stoic!

On Riches

Whenever I see a splendid palace With well-groomed corps of attendants and beautiful bearers carrying litters Why wonder? Why gape in astonishment? It is all show- Such things are displayed,  not possessed! Learn to be content with little And cry out with courage and greatness of soul  I have water!, I have porridge! Let me then compete in happiness with Jupiter himself! You must crave nothing, If you could vie with Jupiter For jupiter craves nothing!!!

A true philosopher

A true philosopher,  my dear Lucilius, Is like a high mountain  That appears less lofty from afar But that clearly prove how high the peaks are  When you are near them; A true philosopher is  True by his acts not by his tricks... He stands in a high place,  worthy of admiration  Lofty and really great Does not stretch himself or walk or tiptoe  Like those who seek to improve their height by deceit He is therefore above earthly things Equal to himself- under all conditions! Whether the current of life runs free Or whether he is tossed and troubled! Letters from a stoic  CXI  pg 456 Seneca

6 creative constraints to write everyday

Time : 30 mins Topic : what topic you plan to write? Self development? Time management? Solitude

By Ralph Waldo Emerson  To go into solitude  A man needs to retire  As much from his chamber As from society  I am not solitary whilst I read and write Though nobody is with me But if a man would be alone, l Let him.look at the stars Standing on bare ground Head bathed by blithe air And uplifted into infinite space All mean egotism vanishes I become transparent eyeball I am nothing; I see all; The currents of universal being circulate through me I am a part or particle of God!

Busyness

Busyness is a form of laziness....Tim Ferriss I agree with Tim. Being busy gives me an illusion  of doing something. But many time it turns out be mere tossing up and down in the same place. And what is the big deal here  in this badge of honor of being busy... Author Debbie Millman defines busyness the best way " Busy is a decision. We do things we want to do, period. If we say we are too busy,  it is just shorthand for the thing being " not important enough" or "not a priority " Busy is not a badge. You dont find the time to make things You make the time to do things" What Debbie means is : if you find a thing important enough , focus on making the time- carving the time out! I think this is where the pomodoro technique of time management fits. It shifts from making the thing to making the time. It shifts the focus form Product to Process. Stephen Covey's Time Jar is an example. If you keep filling the glass jar with busy little stuff - pebbles- you

Vain glory!

In the world people think they can attain glory By having cows and horses, Elephant and gold, Family and servants, Fields and mansions, But I do not call that glory, For here one thing depends on another Utterly independent is the Infinite! One who meditates upon the self and realizes the self Sees the Self everywhere And rejoices in the self (Shall Attain glory)

Find your Guru

As a man from gandhara, blindfolded, Led away and left in a holy place, Turns to east and west and north and south And shouts, ' I am left here and cannot see!" Until one removes his blindfold and says "There lies Gandhara; follow that path" And thus informed,  able to see for himself The man inquires from village to village  And reached his homeland at last - just so, My son , one who finds an illumined teacher  Attains to spiritual wisdom in the Self (Chandogya Upanishad) Eknath Easwaran

Write everyday

Why do I write everyday? Writing helps me clarify my thoughts Writing is my voice of reason Writting makes me money Writing is my meditation My advice: Start writing today Sohaib Albadawee @albadawee

Merge

As the rivers flowing east and west Merge into the sea and become one with it Forgetting they were seperate rivers So do all creatures lose their separateness When they merge atlast into Pure Being! Chandogya Upanishad Eknath Eswaran

Order in the day

All I can do is this Channelize my energy towards creating order By doing the next best thing I can  No matter how big the challenge  I need to motivate myself saying this "Let me take the next best action To create some order" This can be as small as making the bed  Or as big as solving world hunger Let me take next best action as Counter-measureagainst the Entropy !
