Consciousness and Matter

Conscious spirit and unconscious matter Both have existed since the dawn of time With maya appearing to connect them! Misrepresenting Joy as outside us! When all these three are seen as One, the Self Reveals his universal form and serves As an instrument of the driving will! Shvetashvatara Upanishad  Eknath Eswaran

Meditation

Like oil inside sesame seed  Like butter in cream Like water in spring Like fire in  firesticks So dwells the lord of love , the Self In the very depths of consciousness  Realize him through Truth and meditation!

Power of Manthram

Shvetashvatara Upanishad Faces of God Fire is not seen until One fire stick runs against another Though the fire remains hidden in the fire stick So does the lord remains in the body until He is revealed through the mystic manthram!

How to meditate

Pg.163 The Upanishads  Eknath Eswaran  Be seated with spinal column erect And turn your mind and senses deep within With the manthram echoing in your heart Cross over the Dread Sea of birth and death !!!

Modes of knowing

Mundaka Upanishad Modes of knowing Mundaka Upanishad furnished the motto of modern indian nation "Satyam eva Jayate", Truth alone prevails  Knowledge is twofold- higher and lower The study of veda,  linguistics,  rituals,  Astronomy, and all the arts Can be called as lower knowledge  The higher knowledge is that which leads to Self- realization!!! Consumption and Fasting

I need to use the yoga concept of consumption to deal with my sensual pleasures in daily life Taste is consumption for my tongue  TV / YouTube is consumption for Eyes Music is consumption for Ears Warmness is consumption for feel/ touch Aroma is consumption for Nose Now the 5 senses I have to withdraw from , even if intermittently through Fasting! Fasting for tongue - skip a meal! Fasting for eyes - avoid YouTube one day of week Fasting for ears - practice silence for 1 hour per week Fasting for feel  no fan/ AC Fasting for nose- stay in calm  place  And in that phase Focus on a mantra And let that ignite a spark to the Self -Meditate on the Self

Energy, Matter and Consciousness

 Maria Popova Blog  Dead molecules erupt into flavors of bitterness or sweetness (Taste) Electromagnetic frequencies burst with color (vision) Hapless air pressure waves become laughter of children (Sound) Impact of passing molecules fill consciousness with aroma of roses on a warm summer afternoon (smell) Physical impact of human with an  object become pleasure or pain (Touch) My words Phrases above amplify the statement of Richard Feynman that we are  Merely atoms with consciousness;

Vain Glory

Vain Glory Theory of Moral Sentiments Adam Smith Amidst all the gaudy pomp of the most ostentatious greatness amidst the venal and vile adulation of the great and the learned amidst the foolish acclamation of the ordinary people amidst the pride of conquest and war he is still secretly pursued by the avenging furies of shame and remorse Even the great caesar , who could at an instant dismiss his enemies could not dismiss his suspicions! And he felt : " I have lived long enough for nature and Glory. I am contented to die" Certainly, he had lived too long for real glory - one that stems from the happiness in the love and esteem of his equals!

External Appearance and Internal Virtues

The external graces, frivolous accomplishments, of that impertinent and foolish thing  called a man of fashion  are commonly more admired than the  solid virtues of a warrior, statesman, philosopher, or legislator! When the duke of Sully was called upon by Lewis the Thirteenth to give his advice on some great emergency, he observed the favorites and courtiers whispering to one another and smiling at his unfashionable appearance.  'Whenever your majesty's father, did me the honor to consult me, he ordered the buffoons of the court to retire into the antechamber'

Rise up Like Phoenix

From a LinkedIn post of Tech Sector employee who had lost his job : One of my dad's favorite quotes for moments like this was from the Ballad of Sir Andrew Barton: "I'll lay me down and bleed a-while, And then I'll rise and fight again."

The real Self help

These days its tragic to be a loser ...says Author Alain De botton in his book School of Life.  The self- help industry driven by many new-age gurus, resonates success only from the perspective of materialistic aspects - money , rank, position and fame. while this is not entirely wrong ,this one dimensional success view, leads to a distorted picture of the reality. Success is treated as a binary- winner or loser. If you win, no matter at what cost,  you are celebrated and vice versa. Rather the real  self-help should enable us to think about  1.Helping us to know our fickle minds 2. Find our purpose 3. Connect meaningfully with others 4. Achieve intervals of composure and acceptance  Subhash Chandra Bose , one of India's greatest freedom fighters had this daily routine: A practice of self-analysis at the end of each day: This analysis would be of two kinds.  First , the analysis of himself at that point in time : know more about hidden desires, impulses and aspirations.  Second, a

Craft your Life!

Charles Hayward,   a cabinet maker and editor of   The Woodworker   magazine, offers some advice on how to succeed in woodworking (and in life): "One thing is certain: that, even though the craft is a lifetime's study, the application of a few simple principles will assuredly bring success in woodworking. In the first place, never start a job until you know precisely how you are going to do it. Pass its construction step by step through your mind, so that you may hit upon the snags and mentally smooth them out. Don't work hurriedly. Your very keenness may prompt you to rush, but to do so is fatal. Curb your desire to see the thing finished, and always concentrate intently upon the particular bit of the job you have in hand. In all you do be accurate. No measurement, no cut, no squaring, should be "near enough." It must be right. For often one inaccuracy becomes the seed of others, and reproduces trouble as the work proceeds. Finally, don't worry about an ho
