Book Review: The 4-Hour Work Week

Tim Ferriss in his book “The 4-Hour Work Week” defines the new age life-style of Entrepreneurship and the “New Rich”(New-age Entrepreneurs) . Through this book, Tim Ferriss provides a new DEAL for Living …
D for Definition, E for Elimination, A for Automation, L for Liberation…..

So let us begin with the beginning :

Definition : Who are the New Rich? …They own the trains and have someone else ensure they run on time ! This is definitely contrarian running of  business...one where the owner’s time during the day is all sucked-up running the business!

Elimination:
Tim Ferris chastises the 21st century style of being “busy” as a form of laziness – Lazy thinking and Indiscriminate action….Instead the New Rich do Less with Less….Lesser number of Tasks (Pareto’s Law) in very Less time (incredibly tight deadlines) (Parkinson’s Law)

Automation:
For those readers who are reading this blog post yet, you may wonder if this is possible at all…I too had big doubts as I was reading the book…Tim Ferriss offers ideas for businesses that will fit the 4-hour work week rule ! He provides the rules for running business powered by MBA…(Management By Absence)

Liberation:
New Rich do not believe in retiring from job only at the end…They call this deferred happiness….rather they replace vacations with Mini-retirements! The argument is if you got the DEA portion of it right, L takes care of itself….

Tim Ferriss  is the guru of New-age Life style and his concepts of Work and Life as defined in 4HWW are trend-setting…If you have the guts, you can try it out…I must admit though that I have a weak heart for such an adventure!

Arnold Bennett was a prolific author in the early 20th Century. I read his book "How to live on 24 hours a day" He explains his process in his book : that resulted him in being a prolific author: following are the learning: even in the busiest week, find 7-1/2 hours of time beyond the work ; Focus those 7-1/2 hours on thinking Time practice honest self-reflection using the below questions: what do want for yourself? what motivates you? what scares you? what embarrasses you? What are you proud of? What beliefs do you have that might be wrong? Are you caring for yourself or harsh with yourself? Authors Arnold Bennett
