Mood and Action

As you try to wake up early morning , thoughts arise to tell us to sleep a little more…

As you try to take a walk out, thoughts of “feeling sluggish” tell us to open Facebook  and record that emotion…..

As you feel the urge to read for the upcoming exam, thoughts of how tough the chapter of that subject tell us to skip over it and instead chat with our friends…

As you determine to save for buying an apartment, magnitude of the savings required dampen you and tell you instead to splurge on an unnecessary gadget…

And this list can go on endless…

The bottom line is that our thoughts determine the mood which in turn make a difference between action and inaction…Thoughts of discomfort and uncertainty lead us into distractions such as sleeping a little longer , watching the Television or just go out for mindless Shopping … and the outcome is Procrastination…

So is there a solution?
After reading Leo Babauta and James Clear  for sometime now, I recently am trying upon this idea which  sounds like a solution…reverse the cause and effect process between mood and action ….what I mean is instead of letting your mood to determine the actions, allow your actions to determine the mood….but how? ….through Habits formation…

Man is a creature (a bit of a sophisticated kind!) of Habits…each one of us have at least 5 to 6 habits that we speed through effortlessly each day…some of these could be as simple as brushing teeth right after waking up or as complex as an hour at the Gym / doing Yoga. For example if you want to take up the exercise habit and feeling difficult to build this into your schedule, tell yourself that You would want to put the habit of tying the shoelace and walk out of the house, right after your morning coffee irrespective of your mood…If you have to read the tough subject , start reading just one page each day during the ride to the office…again irrespective of your mood…If you have to save for an upcoming home purchase, start a Recurring deposit right after your salary day…so that the first expenditure of the month is a Saving….
As you perform these habits, day after day, you will feel amazing after completion of these actions. That is going to set the tone for the remaining day…Can we all ask for a better deal than that?

So…Dear all..come on….Ready…Start….Habits…Action!

I really believe in 21 day rule. Any activity done repeatedly for 21 days becomes our second nature, our habit. Once we have a habit, we enjoy doing the activity and the cause and effect switch there roles

I read his book "How to live on 24 hours a day" He explains his process in his book : that resulted him in being a prolific author: following are the learning: even in the busiest week, find 7-1/2 hours of time beyond the work ; Focus those 7-1/2 hours on thinking Time practice honest self-reflection using the below questions: what do want for yourself? what motivates you? what scares you? what embarrasses you? What are you proud of? What beliefs do you have that might be wrong? Are you caring for yourself or harsh with yourself? Authors Arnold Bennett
