Reading as an Habit

One of the habits that I picked up & am very proud about  in the last few years is Reading. As mentioned in one of my previous blogs (Bangalore Book Fair 2011 ),I was introduced to reading through the Bangalore book fair. With the advent of internet, I now read not only through books but also through variety of content in Web such as blogs, Online forums & Web-sites.
I prefer Reading as compared to other activities like Watching TV/Random web-browsing for the following reasons:
Reading improves Thinking:
Reading is synonymous with Unit-Tasking...you cannot read as well as do another activity in parallel. This means that any meaningful reading engrosses your mind. You read ....ruminate...agree/disagree...like/Dislike. It is a nice exercise for the mind
Reading provides Perspective:
Most Writers put in their life-time experiences through their words. One of my main premise to read is to understand what others think and say about a topic. Reading is one of the simplest ways where one can learn the mistakes that others committed and learn from it.
Reading is often the first step towards action:
For me, Reading has substituted Hearsay as the first step towards action. Reading is the fountainhead from which my currently daily habits ensued ...be it Physical Exercise / Organizing tasks / Writing / Speaking
Reading provides enjoyment:
As they say, “If aint fun, why do it? “....Reading provides me that enjoyment.

Try out Reading ...You may like it too

How to live on 24 hours a day

Arnold Bennett was a prolific author in the early 20th Century. I read his book "How to live on 24 hours a day" He explains his process in his book : that resulted him in being a prolific author: following are the learning: even in the busiest week, find 7-1/2 hours of time beyond the work ; Focus those 7-1/2 hours on thinking Time practice honest self-reflection using the below questions: what do want for yourself? what motivates you? what scares you? what embarrasses you? What are you proud of? What beliefs do you have that might be wrong? Are you caring for yourself or harsh with yourself? Authors Arnold Bennett
