Eknath Eswaran: Work as a Chance to Grow

Yoga means you are making yourself "Whole"

Undivided, which is the goal of "Spiritual Life"

There are different paths of Yoga:

  1. Bhakti Yoga : Attaining the Holistic state Through devotion
  2. Karma Yoga : Attaining the Holistic state Through Work
  3. Gnana Yoga : Attaining the Holistic state Through Knowledge
  4. Brahma Yoga : Attaining the Holistic state through Vedic astrology

Today we will discuss about : Karma Yoga:

Eknath Eswaran in his interpretation of Bhagavad Gita summarizes: Karma Yoga in a simple phrase;

"Complete Attention to the Job at Hand with a sense of Detachment"

  1. Complete Attention : When we divide our attention we split ourselves  - which weakens everything we do!
  2. Job at Hand : Job in front of us ,is the job worth doing, however mundane it seems to be ; when we postpone or neglect a task worth doing , we are again dividing our attention
  3. Sense of Detachment : When we get personally entangled with the outcome of our job at hand, we are again dividing our attention!
So essentially all the three elements of Karma Yoga reduces to a single skill :
"Unifying our attention"
