On Divinity

 

Pg.151 stoic 6 pack Epictetus 

Oh! MAN, why shall you pray to divinity?

For avoiding death, disease and danger?

In cowardice and dread of what shall happen 

Leading you to frequent approaching of divinity 

Praying that I shall inherit the property of my father 

Behaving as an arrant ass who does not know god does not own acres of land

Man! When shall you realize that 

You are superior thing

You are a portion separated from the dirty

You have in yourself a certain portion of him

Now ask yourself 

If I must expose myself to danger for.my friend 

And if it's my duty to even die for him

What need do I have then for divinity?

Man, Don't search for divinity outside

Its within you 

 

Don't pollute him

By impure thought seeds

And by your dirty deeds
