One must therefore take refuge in Philosophy ...Seneca
Henry David Thoreau : In his book Walden says :
"To be a philosopher is not merely to have subtle thoughts, nor even to found a school;
but so to love wisdom as to live according to its dictates, a life of simplicity, independence , magnanimity and Trust.
it is to solve some of the practical problems of life , not only theoretically, but practically"
And what is wisdom ?
Wisdom is to know and practice :
what are the gross necessities of life? and distinguish it from Luxuries and Superfluities - that is wisdom
Thoreau says:
In most helpless and diseased society, many things are really necessaries;
In better society, they are entirely unknown for they are totally unnecessary for an elevated life
And in best society, they are entirely unknown for they are totally unnecessary for an elevated life
I am convinced both by faith and experience that to maintain oneself on Earth is not hardship - but a past time - if we live simply and wisely
