Futility
Arnold Bennett, The Human Machine
An unwise man wishes to have a different environment
Just glancing at his own faults momentarily , looking away again
what he wants is -
" A pipe that wont put itself in the mouth
A glass that wont leap of its own accord to his lips
Money that wont ship untouched out of his pocket
Legs that will carry him certain miles everyday in open air
Habits that practice themselves
Spouse that will adjust according to humors
A wise man knows that this is all futile
he cant have these things
resigns himself to the Universe!
