For those that things that fortune holds sway are :
chattels, money, passion, positions;
they are weak; stifling, prone to perish and of uncertain future;

Seneca says, power, position, prosperity are all mortal, shifting , wavering, and of uncertain future;

whereas works of virtue are free and unsubdued;

virtues rise above fortune when it treats you kindly
virtues rise above adversity when it weighs you down

virtue overwhelms all pains, annoyances, and wrongs
