False Opinion
pg.36 marcus aurelius meditationsTo the Jaundiced, Honey tastes bitter
To those bitten by mad dogs, water causes fear
A confused soldier mistakes the dust raised by cattle as incoming Enemy troops
Do you then think a false opinion has less power than
the bile in the jaundiced or
poison in him who is bitten by a mad dog?
It is in our power to have no opinion about a thing
not to be disturbed in our soul;
for things themselves have no natural power to form our judgment!
Accustom then yourself, to attend carefully to what is said by the authority
and as much as possible, be in the speaker's mind
then you shall realize, why they said what they said!
