Punches N’ Paradigms

A “Punch dialogue” (hereafter called Punch as they call it in Tamil Film Industry) is a rhetoric device used by the Hero mostly to prove a point to the Villain .This will be often accompanied by blaring name chanting of the hero as a background voice . That would explain one half of the title of the post and you have to read the entire post  to understand what has it got to do with a corporate buzzword such as “Paradigm”.
As my knowledge of films is limited to Tamil Cinema (“Kollywood”!!!), I have compiled the best among the best  among the Punch  of Tamil Cinema in the recent times. For the benefit of non-tamil audience I have posted the translation in English .The English version may not pack as much of a punch as the original, but I guess Readers  would be able to relate it to Punch in their own Film Industry be it “Bollywood”,”Kollywood”,”Sandalwood” not to leave out the “Hollywood”.

Rajinikanth in “Bashaa” :
“Naan oru thadavai sonna nooru thadavai sonna madhiri’:
This is the mother of all punch dialogues. The translation goes like this : “If I tell once, it is equivalent to 100 times”. In the film,Bashaa (Rajini) tells these words to the villain Mark Anthony (Raghuvaran)!!!(Not be confused with  Marc Anthony). The Paradigm underlying this punch dialogue is “Tell a lot in few words rather than telling about few in a lot of Words”. This to me resonates with the often emphasized need of “Better Communication” no matter where you are in the Corporate ladder.

Vijaykanth in “Ramana”:
‘Mannippu, thamizhla enakku pidikkatha vaarthai!...”..
Mannippu(Pardon) is the only Tamil Word that I don’t like…This to me is the “No Excuse” culture that they consider as the hallmark of a Professional. If you had agreed to do it…you own it. The buck stops with you.

Dr.Vijay in "Pokkiri":
“Naan oru thadavai mudivu pannitta en pechai naane kekka matten” … “If I am decided once, I won’t budge even to my own words” .Wow…I have never heard anyone put more succinctly about the art of decision making.

Rajinikanth in “Arunachalam” :
“Andavan solran ARUNACHALAM mudikkaraan”…

“God Proposes Arunachalam Disposes”. Yes ..I have typed it right. You all might have been used to the proverb “Man Proposes, God Disposes” which is for lesser mortals. Rajini in the Silver Screen is the Supreme Thing that ever happened on the Earth.Okay... I am beginning to get emotional here about SuperStar .Sorry folks....need to stop here

So,the next time you hear the Punch...don't let it straight through the other ear. Please make an earnest attempt to detour the Punch through the top of your mind. Some of them (.0001% to be exact) make sense.
