One of the books that I have read and re-read many times over is “Living The 80/20 Way” by Richard Koch (Nicholas Brealey Publishing). It is a practical book on the
famous 80/20 principle (20% of your effort gets 80% of your rewards).
The great thing about this book is it written for a layman
and has no fluff associated with it.Koch who comes from a management consulting
background addresses how to approach all the things that matter to a individual
in the “80/20 Way”….Time , Priorities , Work, Money ,Relationships
& Living the The Simple, Good Life.
The book essentially asks the reader to be self aware of
where their Individuality lies in…by asking questions like :
Who and
What do you care most about?
What
kind of person are you and want to become?
What
are your strongest qualities, emotions and abilities?
Do you
want to make a name for yourself? For What?
Do you want to create something
that other people will notice and enjoy? … and so on….
All these questions "exclude" your options ....causing you to think about where
you need to put your life energy into. This is your “Where you want to be?” piece of the puzzle .Answering
this is the fundamental requirement for enjoying the life. Too many of us want to
be everywhere all the time which is not possible.Koch debunks the modern life which is focussed on taking on "More with more". His premise of "80/20 way" is that "Less is more".
The next step Richard Koch suggests is to …Find the
route to reach the destination….The 80/20 Way …the easiest way of reaching the
destination
And the last step of ….Taking the actions…
Check out this book which is an easy read and surely you are
bound to take a pause and re-think about the complex life we are leading in these days.
